I will start this review by saying this is my second laptop to buy in the last 2 months. My first purchase was an HP Envy that I ordered directly through HP because of discounts through my company. I received the computer and was blown away at the speed of the solid state hard drive paired with 16 gigs of ram. 9 days later, I opened the computer all the way to the stopping point (very gently) and the screen went black and never came back on. I was livid. I returned the computer vowing never to use HP again because of the product failure and horrible customer service I encountered with them.
With that being said, I did much research and came across this new model of Asus multimedia laptops. I called Asus to confirm that it was in fact the computer that I was reading about and found out that it came out in March of this year. I ordered the computer and received it 4 days later with Prime shipping. No tax, and free shipping made it a bit easier to pay that much for a computer. I will give you my opinion about this new laptop
Pros: -Very well built machine. The frame seems very strong and looks sleek. A solid hinge on the screen seems like a better idea than the 2 smaller hinges on the HP. -You can turn the track pad on and off which helps if you use a mouse and don't want to accidentally hit the track pad while typing. I had that problem alot with the HP. -Screen resolution is beautiful -Very fast. It starts up in about 14 seconds or so. That's with the facial recognition camera starting and logging you in. -The sound with the little subwoofer plugged in is really good and really loud for a laptop, if you unplug the speaker, it sucks. -The aluminum cover looks great -The heat flows out the back of the laptop which keeps your hands from getting hot on either side of the laptop -I really like the keyboard. The keys are stiff enough and solid to where they don't seem cheap. I feel like they may last a long time.
Cons: -Pretty expensive laptop but you get what you pay for -mouse pad is a little raised on the right side causing a little lip to be above the body. - Manufactures defect but not really a big deal unless you are completely OCD and need everything to line up perfectly. -The hinge for the screen is butted up against one side and there is a gap in the other. It is not centered. Once again an OCD thing. lol -Like all other windows machines, a lot of junk installed that you don't need. I just uninstalled it and had no problem doing so. -Have to have subwoofer plugged in for good sound -No finger print scanner. I enjoyed having that on the HP. -Battery is sealed in. I would like to be able to take it out to replace if needed.
I am very pleased with this computer. Because of the presets on battery life protection when unplugged, it runs slower when not plugged in. But this will only affect you if you are editing photos or playing high resolution games. You can adjust those settings, but will reduce battery life in doing so. And I was also very pleased with the knowledge and politeness of Asus's customer service when I talked to them.
If you are looking for a laptop with great equipment inside, that of which rivals the Macbook Pro, then this is for you. I am by no means saying this is as good or better than the Macbook Pro, but it's $1000 cheaper. That helped me decide on this computer and hopefully it will be the last one I own for a good while.

Alright guys some of these 'reviews' are bit lacking here. One sentence for an item that's a grand? Don't quit your day job. Might as well throw my two cents about my thoughts with this laptop.
I have been in the market for a laptop for months. Why? Well laptops tend to be cyclical, new models come out during X season and if you're about to drop some serious moolah on one- you don't want to be that guy paying top dollar for old tech when the next 'latest and greatest' is coming out in no time.
Here was my profile in looking for a laptop, I wanted one for school work, for downtime ie playing some games, had to be durable, and it could not look like a flashy neon look at me look at me laptop. I'm looking at you MSI...
This laptop exceeds all of criteria and then some.
For starters you are dealing with an i7 4720, for the layman out there that's the Arnold Schwarzenegger when it comes to processors in a laptop. For the tech heads out there you already know but just in case: http://www.notebookcheck.net/Intel-Core-i7-4720HQ-Notebook-Processor.132361.0.html
For a real world application I found myself installing a large game, transferring files off of a USB and watching a 4gb video file at the same time. This processor does not flinch in fact much like Arnold it laughs at your puny attempt in stressing it out.
Next lets talk about the GPU: GTX 950M the next iteration of the 850M. A side note for this years model of Geforce cards, they are only marginally more powerful than last years offerings. So in the case of my 950m its about 7-10 percent more powerful than the 850m. Basically the 950m is an overclocked version of the 850m (give or take).
So how does this card perform? Well my PC library is lacking but these are the games I've tested out on it:
I'm playing vanilla Skyrim at Ultra settings at a consistent 60fps. Yes, a game that came out years ago should be running at this level, but here is the thing, I'm also running Skyrim with a ton of graphical enhanced mods and now I'm going between 55-60 fps. That for me is quite impressive.
Next I have sleeping dogs haven't played it much but the benchmark I ran had an average of 54fps on ultra settings. Put it this way, Sleeping Dogs on the PS4 only runs at 30fps. A little insight into how capable the 950m actually is!
So will this card run the newest AAA titles like the Witcher, Total War Atilla, GTA etc etc in short yes! Medium to high settings is what you should expect. Again if using the PS4 as a benchmark, thats either at or above Sony's console, not bad at all...
The great thing about both the GPC and CPU in the laptop? They are dead quiet. Under normal load you hear practically nothing maybe the stock mechanical HDD. When you are playing a game of course the fans kick on but its a low hum in no way is this distracting.
Moving onto the screen of this laptop, its a thing of beauty. Vibrant colours, with no bleeding at all. Its also a touch screen though I dont take advantage of that feature. I'm old school- you never touch the computer screen, ever. Old habits...
The rest of the laptop is encased in aluminum a la Mac Book Pro style. Another reason why I picked this up, no neon, no racing stripes just the minimalist look I wanted. The brushed metal style isn't glossy and isn't a fingerprint magnet like other models out there. The keyboard is back lit, and while I see people complaining about the colour scheme with the keys, honestly I'm not bothered by it. I actually prefer the white light as opposed to red or RGB. Since this is an aluminum case, there is virtually no flex to be had, again showcasing how durable this machine is.
Moving onto the speakers, this laptop has four, the first of its kind I believe. And what do you know they are pretty decent. Lacking that enclosed sound that most laptop speakers suffer from. It also comes bundles with a mini sub woofer but it doesn't work. A driver issue, just haven't gotten around to updating it. Since I have my own speakers its not a concern, but maybe something to consider for you.
Finishing off, you're getting one stick of 8gb of ram (Samsung brand I believe) and the only negative on this laptop is the 5400 rpm hdd. At the very least it could have been a 7200rpm but hey no one is perfect. SSD's are dropping in price swap it out and voila ride the lighting. The optical drive is sturdy, glad its there as I have my own library of physical media games that I wanted to install. Yes you can easily swap it out for a blu ray drive or an extra HDD. Accessing the bottom of the laptop needs to be done with a Torx scredriver, again no one is perfect.
So in the end I am extremely content with this laptop. Sturdy and well built, powerful and capable for playing games. I'm future proofed for at least a good 4-5 years. Considering the ability to get 16gb of ram and the inevitable SSD upgrade. If you are on the fence, don't be. Make the purchase, you'll be glad that you did!

First off, let me start by saying, if you want a quick review then here it is:
Buy it.
Feel free to read the tips and notes at the bottom of this review just in case. Now, on to the rest...
This is, without a doubt, the best value laptop you can buy today. Let me break down some of the components:
Display -------------------- The display is beautiful. This model comes with a few different presets you can choose from, I'm a fan of the "vivid" setting since I'm a sucker for vibrance and color. Every game I've played or movie I've watched looks stunning. The viewing angles are quite amazing as well.
Touchscreen -------------------- I didn't think I'd use it to be honest. I felt like it would be one of those cheap, semi-responsive, fury-inducing gimmicks that I've seen all too much in other touchscreen models. Well, it's not, in fact it's amazing. It's incredibly responsive and smooth to the touch. I use it often to scroll through long webpages with my thumb or I use the swipe "back" gesture to traverse through my history, which is very handy.
Trackpad -------------------- The trackpad itself it good, not great. That's not to say it is bad by any means. The trackpad feels fine but it's the clicking I have an issue with. You can only really tap mid-left for left click and mid-right for right click. If you try pressing down on the far left or right of the trackpad, you will notice it feels stiff and unresponsive. I've turned off mostly all the gestures as I'm not a fan, but overall the trackpad does it's job. Best thing about any trackpads is if you don't like it, you can just use a mouse. Still slightly annoying but at least the option is there.
Keyboard -------------------- The keyboard is usually my make-or-break component since it's obviously the most used. I previously owned a Sager I ordered online and instantly hated it when I began to type on it because of it's raised, paper-thin plastic with deep grooves in the center of each key. It wasn't for me. These keys are solid and responsive, though there is a little give and bend when you push towards the center of the board, it's not the greatest laptop keyboard of all time, but it is certainly not a detriment to the overall quality.
GPU -------------------- This particular aspect of the laptop is usually very important to me because I do enjoy gaming on my laptop. After several hours of comparing benchmarks with other similar laptops, I'm more than happy with the performance that the GTX850M is capable of. Everything that I've played on this laptop runs beautifully. I can run most modern games on ultra settings with a passable framerate, but for the sake a playability I usually tone it down to medium or high. If this is your main concern and this review is still somewhat relevant, don't let this stop you. It's a fantastic GPU.
Hard Drive -------------------- Not much to say here, the HDD that the laptop comes with isn't great. Actually, it's god awful. It's so bad that I don't even want to type it's RPM. I'd consider it a bit bottleneck considering how fast the rest of the machine is. I replaced this laptop's HDD with a Samsung EVO 256GB SSD and it's blown me away just how much quicker it is. If you're going to buy this laptop, I'd HIGHLY recommend picking up a SSD for it.
Speakers -------------------- Good sound, not amazing. The speaker placement is sort of confusing to me, I'd say the speakers are probably one of the most unfavorable things about the laptop. The audio ports can be quite tight at times as well. If you plan on playing music with this often, then you'll need to find the right surface to put it on to give it decent sound. I don't really use the subwoofer module much as it's not that impressive... but I suppose it's there if you'd like to use it.
Battery Life -------------------- The battery life is actually pretty good, it's something to respect in a market where most laptops die fairly quick while doing menial tasks. Again, it's not a selling point of the laptop, but it's not something that should not bother you by any means.
Overall -------------------- So, this laptop is incredible for the price. You get solid components across the board (build quality, battery, display, graphics, etc.) except for the hard drive (ASUS what were you thinking?). This laptop doesn't have features that are top-notch (maybe besides the display, but even then 1440p would have been nice), but the point is that this laptop does mostly everything right. Simply, you get a very high quality laptop that will last you quite a while. I'm very happy with this laptop and I really think it's worth every penny. Plus it's nice to play Hearthstone with the touch screen, which is fun little bonus.
Miscellaneous Notes & Tips --------------------
1.) If you're going to replace anything in this laptop, YOU NEED A TORX T5 SCREWDRIVER. Not a T6, not a T5 2/9s, a T5. I went mad trying to find one in my area and had to wait a few days to replace the hard drive in this laptop.
2.) If you're going to install Windows 8 on an SSD, you need a Windows 8.1 ISO that you can boot from. The key is bundled with the machine so you won't need to put it in when installing.
3.) If you replace the SDD, then replace it with were the original hard drive is. DO NOT put it where the optical drive is. I mean, you could, but you would be wasting a lot of the speed benefits of the SSD and then at that point... what's the point of even having an SSD? Keep this in mind.
4.) I replaced the optical drive with the original hard drive that the laptop came with. It's slow, sure, but it's just fine for storing media on it. Run your OS on the SSD if possible and keep all your games, movies, documents, etc. on this spare drive. The bezel on the optical drive can be taken off and snapped into the side of the laptop so there isn't a gaping hole where the optical drive used to be. I recommend taking out the optical drive and putting it in a slim enclosure so you have a portable USB optical drive if you ever need to use it.
Before my review, I just want to say that I am no computer expert. I am a high school teacher, a grad school student, and a typical, everyday computer user.
I wanted to give myself at least 6 months with this computer before reviewing it, and I have just passed that mark. There are a number of things that I like about this computer. First, it is fast for my needs. I do some gaming, but it is not regular, nor are my games needy in terms of requiring the full processing power of the computer. I mostly use the internet and Office programs. In my everyday tasks, I have never had a lag issue and I move seamlessly from one application/program to another. The touchscreen is flawless and also helps in switching between applications. While it seems silly at first, the power cord is sufficiently long enough. Finally, and quite importantly, I have never had an overheating issue.
Now, there are unfortunately many things that I am disappointed with. First, the computer is already breaking. The headphone jack is very unresponsive and cuts out frequently, there are a number of dead pixels in the screen, and the hinge is super flimsy, creaking and making snapping sounds with every movement. This is a big issue for me, and I know it is just a matter of time before I need to send it in. The keyboard is not very responsive, which leads to many typos. The CD tray is in a horrible spot. It is always coming open, even if I do not hit the button. Finally, the speakers are in a bad location and the laptop must be placed on a hard surface to be able to appreciate the decent quality sound that the speakers produce.
The laptop does what I need it to do, despite a number of hardware issues. When all is said and done, however, I am not very impressed with the computer considering I paid just over $1,000.
To recap, here is a list of pros and cons: Pros: -Pretty quick for my needs -Great for multitasking -Excellent display quality -Decent sound -Long power cord -No overheating
Cons: -The headphone port is already broken -The display already has multiple dead pixels -The CD tray is horribly-placed. I open it nearly every time I put it in my bag, and it even sometimes open when I set it on the table. -The speaker placement is terrible. In order to get decent sound, the laptop MUST be placed on a hard surface, as the speakers are in the front at an angle toward the user. -The hinge is very weak, and creaks with any movement. -The keyboard is not very responsive.
Almost the perfect computer, I've bought this laptop to use as a "gaming" laptop and I'm still using it today! This laptop is great for gaming as I can play Games like Battlefield 4 (60fps High settings), League of Legends (144 fps on ultra), Fallout 3 (64fps ultra) no problems.. The Laptop is not the most powerful laptop as it's not really meant to be. It looks professional and the design is gorgeous. Touchscreen is useless due to the size of the computer but the screen is 1080p which is great for movies and gaming. Sound quality is great but the mini subwoofer is absolutely trash. This laptop does get dirty often though (due to the colour and material), so you got to wipe it down a lot. The build quality is fantastic; love the metallic feel. This laptop offers plenty of power when plugged in, and it stays surprisingly cool under load. There is a couple things that really ticked me off though, one thing was the power4gear crap on the laptop; This allows you to "save battery life" in exchange for power.... UNINSTALL THIS JUNK as it will render your desktop slow and unresponsive. One other thing is the disk space, windows 8.1 is killing my disk space so upgrade it to windows 10 asap. Otherwise i'd recommend you get a ssd. My other real complaint is all the bloatware on it (Mcfee, asus junk)
After a year of use I really don`t like this laptop, I had a very nice Sony Vaio i7 that got old and wanted to buy the same but newer, unfortunately Sony is not making that model anymore.
This one I had to send it back for warranty because the screen had problems, now the space bar is not working properly and the mic never worked at all, over all very disappointed.

I brought this computer last year, hoping to find something I can use for gaming and for college. After about two weeks, it began having issues, and started to freeze after about 30 minutes of using it. I won't lie - for a week, it worked perfectly, and it was a great computer. The speaker was great, the specs were fantastic for being an older model, and it was a good computer for the price. However, because of the overheating issue, it is unusable now.
I am very happy with this ROG gaming laptop from Mauricekk. Thou it's a older ROG,works great with Windows 10, and so far every game I have installed on it, SWTOR, WOW, etc has worked great.

This is an awesome gaming laptop.Runs well, plays games smoothly, and importantly, service/responsiveness from the seller was good.
There was a windows update that was a little hairy, but that’s Windows for you.Once I got that figured out the laptop has been running ike a champ ever since.
I bought this laptop refurbished, but it has been excellent. No major issues so far (bought in Jan 2011).
Pros: i7 processor and radeon 5870 = plays most games on high graphics big screen backlit keyboard fans on back of the computer make it so the bottom of the computer doesn't get hot
Cons: Big laptop, not super portable kinda loud battery doesn't last long (I don't really use it without plugging it in though)
I installed windows 8 on it and it works well too.

I ordered a laptop g73jh-rbbx05, first laptop came and had dead pixels. Exchanged it for a different one. Having trouble returning the original. Got the new one before the old one got picked up. Here's the amazing part.. the new one won't load windows... amazing how amazon have terrible quality control. I called ASUS for assistance and the only thing they can do is for me to send my laptop to them to get fixed (which is gonna cost money) and yet again do the dreaded waiting game... I expected so so much more from Amazon. What a mess.. Now I yet again have to do another waiting game just to return the 2nd broken laptop. So i have 2 laptops waiting to get picked up for return. Days of waiting for them and in the end nothing to show for it but contempt. If this isn't enough to deter you maybe you were just like me. I too read the bad reviews and thought maybe it was an isolated event or this could not possibly happen to me, or maybe you were thinking Amazon or ASUS would never give out bad products. I just hope no one has to go thru what i went thru. TLDR: Refurbished products by amazon will waste your time and give you nothing but problems.
I say you might not see your son again because this not-so-little "notebook" is clearly made with video games in mind. Too big to be a "laptop," don't fall for the "I can use it for school" line. Hah! It's got loads of video processing power and speed, and a fine CPU for whatever the CPU is supposed to do, I suppose, though all ours is ever called on to do is Starcraft. In other words, the vendor delivered what he promised: a powerful notebook computer aimed at the video game market.

We received this laptop near the beginning of April.By the beginning of September, it was no longer functional. The charger started developing issues almost immediately, because it is one of those badly-designed chargers that sticks out too far from the body of the laptop. Then, the non-skid pads came off the bottom. Then, the vent on the back broke.Today, I have received a replacement charger from Amazon, in the assumption that it would work with a new charger. No dice! The problem was not the charger, and now I have to figure out how to get my needed files off the machine before I need them in less than two days for a meeting. It is very heavy and large, and looks as if you could throw it down the stairs, but I wanted a durable laptop.Unfortunately, I did not get one.
This machine has had issues from the start with the touch pad, which is extremely unreliable.I had to attach an external mouse to it just to use it without frustration. Also, the video has always had issues, because it shows a blue haze around areas on the screen where there is a lot of movement.I was just trying to put up with all these issues, in the assumption that no more would develop.I was wrong!Do not buy this laptop!
