Not bad, Great value Pros: Comes with Microsoft Office (1 year), handles applications fairly well, small, portable, tablet comes in handy sometimes, expandable storage via micro sd, hard drive version inside keyboard dock is a must have, battery life is pretty good.
Cons: Minor bugs w/ touchscreen (won't work after I close the lid) and touch pad, can't handle powerful applications as well, seems a little top heavy (would like to see the keyboard part hold a little more weight or tablet be a little lighter). 32gb version is a little low (better off w/ hdd dock or 64gb version).
Recommendation: definitely for college students, or people who just need the portability and use small applications like Microsoft word, excel, etc. 32gb is a little on the low side for the tablet, either get one with a hard drive in the dock, have extra micro sd's on hand, or get the 64gb version.
**Found out how to fix MY touch screen problem here: http://www.tomshardware.com/answers/id-2125051/touchscreen-stopped-working-asus-laptop.html
1) Go to "Device Manager"---> Expand "Human Interface Devices"---> The touch screen is a "USB Input Device" right click it and go to properties------> "Power Management"----> Uncheck "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power". 2) Then go to "Power Options"---> "Choose what closing the lid does"---> make sure all settings are set to sleep. You may need to Restart or Sign out after this process.
The Asus Transformer Book is very fast, much faster than my iPad II, which cost me almost three time as much. After I loaded Microsoft Office and MS Access and attached a large external display to the Transformer Book, it is as functional as a desktop PC.The lightweight, portability and functionality of the Transformer Book are just awesome -- all for less than $400.
There are a couple of things that keep me from giving the PC 5 stars:When the battery is half drained, the PC does not boot up properly. Also, to get the external monitor to work, you need to shut down the PC completely, attach the monitor (in my case, via a microHDML-to-VGA adaptor) then restart the PC.It took me a while to figure out this quirky nature of how the PC works with the external monitor. For a while, I though the microHDML port was not working.Once I figured out the restart requirement, my external display has been working consistently. Also, I wish the C: drive is more than 20 GB.That's because MS Office only loads onto the C: drive.Once MS Office is loaded, I keep running out of space on the C: drive and have to clean up temporary files once a month to keep the PC running properly.
I still think it's worth the money and will be glad to recommend this PC and its successors to anyone who is shopping for a convertible tablet PC.
I love this computer so much, I bought it twice.I had the version of this computer that did not have the 500gb keyboard and I ran that thing into the ground and dropped it a couple times. After I killed it, I bought 3 other laptops that were newer, including a customized one from HP, but none of them compared to this one so I returned them.Eventually, I came back to this one and was happy to get the upgraded keyboard. The keyboard has nice springy keys that are just slightly smaller than a regular keyboard, but they feel perfect for how I type. This computer turns on superfast, which I love. The Windows 10 upgrade is not perfect on this laptop and really messes with the battery meter.Depending on the brightness, it might tell you 10 hours or 5, but it pretty much lasts around 7 or more. You may want to stick with Windows 8 (which it comes with) if you want the most accurate read.I'm not really sure on the length with Windows 10 because I haven't actually come to the end of the battery life yet.I tend to go out with it and the battery goes all day.It also is small enough to fit in my purse. This does come with Microsoft Office and it works just like a regular desktop computer instead of a tablet.I wish Asus would keep making this computer but it seems they're trying to go mainstream.
Said I could get the Windows 10 upgrade, wasn't able to because not enough room on the tablet, freezes, not that great.Bought for my 5 year old to play games wouldn't buy for any other reason.

To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyzes reviews to verify trustworthiness.

UPDATE:My original review is under the line.My update is that last week I plugged in my transformer to charge it, and the next day it was dead.It would not start, no way no how, for no reason whatsoever.Dead after 6 months.I spent a few hours reading online reviews of the ASUS Transformer T100 series and an estimated 25% of consumers report some sort of critical malfunction.Take a look for yourself. That means that 1 out of 4 people waste their money on a device that breaks within a year. And that device then goes into a landfill and contributes to the global pollution problem.Meanwhile corporate execs at ASUS line their pockets with your money.
WHETHER AN ELECTRONIC DEVICE WORKS FOR MORE THAN A YEAR SHOULD NOT BE A GAMBLE. When I want to waste $200 on gambling I will go to Vegas. At least in Vegas I will get a free drink while I gamble. ------------------------------------------------------------------------
I own an ASUS laptop and the ASUS transformer tablet.I love both of them, so when I saw this, it seemed like a no-brainer.I thought it would combine the functionality of the laptop with the small, convenient size of the tablet, making it perfect for travel.WRONG!I will list only some of the problems.
1. CONNECTIVITY PROBLEMS. It has serious, random connectivity problems. It works, then it stops. Then it works again.I spent soooo much time trouble shooting the connectivity issue, only to conclude that it's glitchy.
2.SUPER TINY TEXT.ASUS overrode the Windows display settings options so that your only option is tiny tiny tiny text.Very tiny.Instead, it advocates that you use this useless magnifier which is clunky, disorienting, and not at all helpful.I have stopped using this device because reading the text puts a strain on my eyes.If your close range vision is not excellent, this is a terrible choice for you, even with glasses.
3.NO INSTRUCTIONS.It came with no instructions.I know, I know, the instructions are on the device in pdf form or online, or whatever. But using this thing was not intuitive, so some instructions would have saved me alot of time.
4.DOES NOT HOLD CHARGE.It does not hold a charge for very long. Both my old laptop and my tablet hold a charge for twice as long.Does it have a toy battery?
5.SCREEN BARELY TILTS BACK.When it is attached to the keyboard, the screen is practically at a 90 degree angle. This makes the screen really hard to see if the device is on your lap and there is a glare. The screen tilts back as much as an airplane seat [i.e. as far as asmidge], so you end up tilting the entire device, which, of course, makes typing impossible.
6.GLITCHY.Glitchy this, glitchy that, glitchy here and glitchy there. Was this thing quality tested?
I can go on, but I will stop here.I am disappointed in ASUS.I suspect the price is so low because it is made to be cheap and disposable, adding to the electronic litter that contributing to the death of our planet.

This review is written after three weeks of working with the tablet daily. For comparison, I had been using the Dell venue pro 8" for 6 months (daily) prior to acquiring the Asus and had none of the following problems, or any problems with the Dell, operating in the same environments that the Asus has been operating. I am a QA engineer and have been systematically investigating each issue for repeatability and severity.I have had two different Asus tablets, returning the first unit only to find all of the same problems with the second unit. The Asus is a markedly inferior product at the present time (I am an Asus fan, and currently own an Asus laptop that I think highly of so I am not bashing the brand).
This tablet can hang on startup, giving the user a green screen (2-3 boots out of 25).The only way out seems to be holding the power button down until it manually shuts down, and then restarting.
It rarely recognizes the microSD card (I have used three different high quality brands, three different sizes microSD cards in my testing) - note the exact same microSD cards recognize immediately in an external reader when plugged into the USB3 port on the Asus keyboard. This effectively limits the tablet to the internal disk, because the secondarydisk (microSD) is unavailable and unreliable to the point of uselessness.
Using an OTG cable with the micro USB has resulted in corrupting 2 different USB sticks as well (the cable has worked well for 6 months with the dell venue pro 8 and the USB sticks that were corrupted have been used on many different systems successfully including my aforementioned Asus laptop. After reformatting in a Windows 7 desktop, both USB sticks were operable in other PCs and tested OK, so the Asus tablet did not permanently destroy the USB media. It appears as if there are firmware issues (or hardware issues) in both the internal microSD slot and the micro USB slot on the tablet itself.
The tablet sometimes hangs when shutting down (4-5 times every 25 shutdowns) - this requires the user to hold the power button down and manually shut the tablet down.I have left the tablet hung on the green screen at shutdown overnight to see if it will clear itself and it does not.Holding the power button down seems to be the only way to get out of the power-down-hang and, of course, doing that will eventually corrupt the OS.
It also can hang when launching apps.Nothing esoteric, just standard apps like the msn mail account and the kindle app. I have left the app in a hung state for hours, just to see if it would somehow clear itself, but it does not.
The Asus T100 struggles with updates and often hangs during updates- twice, after updates it has hung on the automatic reboot with a dialog box "personalized settings (not responding)" requiring command line utilittes to get it back to a bootable state. This issue may be purely a Microsoft Update issue as it appears to happen to other tablets as well (I have found references for the MS surface). While I think that some of the issues are interactions with Windows 8.1 which, by all accounts is a remarkably unreliable and unstable operating system, the Dell exhibited none of the glitches that plague the Asus.
The best way to use the Asus is to never power it down, but rather set it to 'sleep'.This means that you must charge the tablet whenever you are not using it (it will last somewhere between 11 and 18 hours in sleep mode based on my limited testing of the battery longevity). It is most stable when the user avoids booting and powering down.On the rare occasions when the Asus tablet recognizes the microSD card, it may continue to do so until the tablet is rebooted, although it has 'lost' the card at least once while powered up.
I am hoping that there will be firmware updates which correct the flaws in the micro USB port and the microSD slot as time goes on.
I have not used the larger Dell tablet, but based on my experiences with the Dell Venue pro 8" model, I would have to recommend that users choose the larger Dell for a windows tablet over the Asus t100, or perhaps another brand (lenovo?).
My ASUS T100TA-C1-GR(S) 64 GB stopped working (screen freeze and not respond to keyboard & screen touch) three daysafter I received it. Called ASUS customer support and was instructed to reboot the unit via factory settings (first to shut down the unit then press power button again and tap F9 key to bring up the factory setup screen to set up the unit like it is 1st time taken out of package; Customer support said the problem is caused by Windows 8.1 OS
Two things - 1) I no longer let Windows do automatic updating as some reviews suggested 2) I also uninstalled Norton anti-virus program.I got an error message "8506,421" after installed Norton Anti-Virus program and prompted to go to Norton website support for solution but Norton website indicated there is no fix yet for this incompatibility issue and instructed to download/run the Norton Removal Tool to uninstall Norton.

Well built good quality! I appreciate that it's a Windows tablet/notebook most of all and I have upgraded it for free to Windows 10. It's not to replace my desktop but it is a great bridge to my future faster/better cheaper laptop that will. The only thing that bothers me is processing speed. I love the "touchscreen" convenience but many of my touches are ignored. I can tell it's received them by the screen display but it often seems to still be working on a previous command. This can be annoying but it "comes around" at it's own pace. I still like most everything else and I won't be exchanging it. I am making the adjustment to the machine, rather than vice-versa.
I buy this product when upgrade to Windows 10 are free so very nice 3 in 1 Asus machine working very well and easy to increase stocking with micro SD slut...

I have the 64GB version, which I actually bought off the Dell web site instead of Amazon. It did take a while to arrive (about 3 weeks), but this review isn't about Dell's marketplace. 🙂
I've had the Venue Pro 8 for a few days now and have gotten in a decent amount of both play time and work time.I want to preface this, by saying that I've been through the following tablets over the past couple of years - 1st gen iPad, 3rd gen iPad, iPad mini, Kindle Fire, Nook HD, Samsung Galaxy tab, Surface RT, and Asus VivoTab RT. Up until I bought the Venue Pro 8, I was using the Surface RT as my primary tablet. My kids play their games on the iPads, and I honestly haven't touched them for several months, except to install updates.
The thing that has always frustrated me about tablets is that they are great for consumption of content - books, videos, games, but awful for getting actual work done. And for a guy that works 60+ hour weeks and spends 4 months out of the year travelling, it sucks trying to do work on tablets. The Venue Pro 8, however, is the full version of Windows 8.I have the full version of Microsoft Office 2013 on here, Visio and Project (which are critical to my job), as well as other apps that I use, such as Mindjet MindManager, and MineCraft :)This tablet is literally a full PC in a tablet's body. The battery life is compares to other tablets.I'm tracking around 10 hours of use so far. It's turns on and off as quickly as any other tablet.
Last night, I was watching TV with the Dell Venue Pro 8 on the couch next to me, and during the commercials, I picked it up to check up on a couple of blogs and play a couple levels of some casual games. This morning, I turned on my Bluetooth Microsoft Wedge Keyboard and Wedge Mouse, and went out to Starbucks to work for the morning. My laptop stayed in my bag, and I only used the Venue Pro 8 - checking email, working on a Word doc, taking a conference call on Lync, etc. Yes, the screen is a little small for working on it non-stop, but the resolution is very good and you can compensate for the screen size by adjusting the font sizes in Windows.I haven't had any issues working from the tablet for lengthy periods of time.
I two have two issues, though. The first is the pen. I bought the pen and case combo from Dell, and the pen holder is situated along the right side of the case, when it's being held vertically. Because of this, the pen is close enough to the screen that it deactivates the touch input. This is really annoying, so I stopped carrying the pen in the case. Instead, I put the pen in my pocket. Then the other day, I took it out of my pocket to use it, and I noticed that the tip of the pen had broken off. That was a bit frustrating since the pen was $35.
The second issue is with the case. It's a pretty nice case, but it's bulky and the tablet is tough to get out of it once it's in. When I'm using the case, it feels like the tablet is bulky and thick. When I take it out, it feels slim and light, so I prefer to use it out of the case.So my recommendation is that if you buy this tablet, don't spend the money on the case and stylus - instead take the money and buy a Wedge Keyboard and Mouse - it makes it a lot more usable.
The last thing I'll say is that I saw a video on YouTube of a guy who hooked up the Venue Pro 8 up to a couple of monitors to use it like a PC.I haven't done that yet, but I did buy a Male B to Female A USB cable in order to do this.Once that arrives, I'm going to plug this into my USB docking station and try running this tablet as my primary PC.
Overall, this is the best tablet I've used to date.It really makes Windows shine and makes me more of a believer in the Microsoft vision -

I purchased a DELL VENUE PRO 8 MODEL 5830 in September 2014. Within a week I had issues with the USB port not charging. Amazon replaced the tablet and I have used it very sparingly since then. Despite making sure I always plug it in the correct way, and doing so very carefully, the USB port has gradually loosened and finally it is not charging again. I feel this USB port is defective and there should have been a recall by DELL of this device due that reason.I have called DELL support - and - of course it is likely in China as the support persons, though polite, have given me the run around. DELL needs to recall this product.............obviously there are countless people who have had this problem. I would not have purchased this device had I known about this issue. Now I am stuck. I will never buy another DELL product.

I have had this tablet since March 2014 and have mixed feelings about it.
Good: - Small size, but not too small. It's very comfortable - It's Windows so I can do work on it - Screen resolution is nice
Bad: - It updates at odd times, and often will not successfully reboot, so the screen stays on, but it's black. During this time I am unable to turn it off (by holding the button for any length of time) or use it.I am forced to wait for the battery to drain, then recharge it to be able to turn it back on.A little frustrating to say the least, because you're without the tablet for an indeterminate amount of time, but never shorter than a few hours. - Lost the ability to connect to wi-fi a couple times. This is a common issue and there is a work around, but it's annoying and time consuming to have to look it up, then follow the steps. - Dell really wants me to connect to their service. I forget what, but it's pops up from my tray every so often, then stays for days. - The on screen keyboard has to be told to go back down, even after hitting enter and moving to another screen. This wouldn't be bad on a larger screen, but on this little screen, it only leaves you with about 2 inches of viewable area in landscape mode.

Possibly the worst purchase I have ever made.Never worked well.It stopped taking a charge (which was a known issue) after about 5 uses. They wouldn't just send me a replacement.I worked on the phone and via email with Dell "customer service" dozens of times to try to resolve this issue (over the course or several months). Finally, they told me to BUY ANOTHER unit and then just send the bad one in (that they would reimburse me eventually for the new unit)? So their concept of good customer service is to say that I should buy another piece of garbage hoping for a reimbursement? No chance. I guess I learned my lesson with this one. I can say that I will never buy another Dell product after this.I own a small software development company and have ensured that we will not purchase Dell products after my experience here.Maybe an over reaction to a single bad device, but the customer service experience I had with this was enough to make sure I will not go through it again.
